New Jersey Ski Council is…

Purpose
-
The New Jersey Ski Council was formed in November, 1939 to promote amateur skiing,
assist in the development of new clubs, sponsor and run inter-club competition and
generally to promote club activity in skiing and other snow sports. It is incorporated
as a "not-for-profit" corporation in the State of New Jersey.

Membership
-
The New Jersey Ski Council does not discriminate on the basis of race, color,
national or ethnic origin in club membership or any sponsored activity. Club
membership is available to any active organized ski or snow sports club in the
State of New Jersey and adjacent areas upon application and meeting certain
requirements (By-laws, membership list, and council meeting attendance).
Members of member clubs are automatically considered individual members of
the New Jersey Ski Council. Contact any Council Officer for information.

The New Jersey Ski Council runs a number of skiing and skiing-related
activities during a typical year:

Ski Jamboree
-
The NJ Ski Council Ski Jamboree is an annual event run in the
Fall of each year. The Jamboree brings together approximately 50
vendors representing:

Ski retail businesses

Travel service providers
-
In addition to vendors, many of the council's clubs also have information
tables to enable skiers to learn about ski club membership opportunities.

The 2007 NJ Ski Council Ski Jamboree will be held on November 2, 2007 at

Council Meetings

The NJ Ski Council meets monthly from September through May.

Instruction Programs

The NJ Ski Council is affiliated with the Amateur Ski Instructor's
Association (A.S.I.A)

The NJ Ski Council runs a series of individual and team races each year
encourages its members to take advantage of the opportunities to improve
one's skiing ability through the A.S.I.A. training programs.

Ski Skills Tune-Up Day
-
The NJ Ski Council offers an early season Ski Skills Tune-up Day at the
start of each ski season.

This activity is limited to members of affiliated ski clubs and their
immediate family members.

The 2007 NJ Ski Council Tune-up Day will be held on December 1, 2007
at Ski Windham.

The New Jersey Ski Council is proud to be a Charter Member of the National
Ski Council Federation.

U.S. Recreational Ski Association
-
The U.S. Recreational Ski Association / U.S. Ski Association Liaison provides
the New Jersey Ski Council with current status reports from the USRSA
National / Eastern Region and disseminates information on USSA activities.

Professional Ski Instructors Association (PSIA)
-
The Professional Ski Instructors Association (PSIA) organization promotes and
encourages snow sports instruction programs for member clubs.
-
PSIA distributes information concerning courses to train prospective ski
instructors in the American Teaching Method, assists clubs in developing
in-club instruction programs and enables club members to receive professional
race ski instruction at special reduced rates.

There are 22 race events range from a 5-day race week at Hunter Mountain
to 2-day weekends. They are excellent programs, professionally coached with
emphasis on developing personal skiing skills. Everyone greatly improves
skiing ability, and the gate training will enhance both skiing and carving
skills.

Eastern Ski Writers Association (ESWA)
-
The Eastern Ski Writers Association, founded in 1963, comprises four categories
of membership: Honorary, Press, Retired Press and Corporate.
The purpose of the association is to promote and sustain the highest standards of ski
journalism.

In addition to publishing an annual directory of members, ESWA holds several weekend
meetings during the ski season, conducts professional development seminars and publishes
periodic newsletters to inform members about activities, meetings and services.

Charities
-
The New Jersey Ski Council interfaces with charitable organizations which
are interested in skiing activities, such as the Special Olympics (for the
mentally or physically challenged) and acts as liaison to individuals in
member ski clubs who are willing to volunteer their time to such
organizations.
