SKI INSTRUCTION PROGRAMS

  • Amateur Ski Instructors Association (A.S.I.A.)

    • The Amateur Ski Instructors Association, more commonly known as ASIA, has three main objectives:
      • To train and certify candidates who are interested in teaching alpine, snowboard, and cross country skiing at the amateur level through ski clubs, schools, colleges, youth groups, and other organizations.

      • To encourage and facilitate the upgrading of skiing and riding skills of all skiers through positive programs designed to contribute to and enhance the safety and enjoyment of skiing.

      • ASIA seeks to provide a continuing education program for certified amateur ski and snowboard instructors (CASI's) at a reasonable cost and modest yearly dues, as well as providing a first step toward certification for those who wish to become paid professional instructors.

    • ASIA was originally an organization that ran entry-level ski instructor events and certification clinics. Over the years they have expanded and now have the following programs:

      • Intermediate skiing improvement

      • Advanced Skiing improvement

      • Mogul Introduction

      • Mogul Improvement

      • Level I & II Certification

      • Methodology

      • Snowboard Certification

    • The programs are one of the best buys in skiing today, offering a variety of 2-day clinics with top PSIA professional instructors for less than the cost of a 2-hour private lesson.

    • The New Jersey Ski Council will pay half of the Pre-course and Exam fees after the candidate passes the exam.

    • ASIA applications are available from Ed Dalton or the ASIA Website

    • Check out the 2007-2008 ASIA Schedule of Events.

  • New Jersey Ski Council - Ski Skills Tune-Up Day - December 1, 2007

    • The New Jersey Ski Council will hold its annual ski skills tune-up on Saturday, December 1st, at Ski Windham. Only Ski Club members and their immediate families are invited to attend. The fee of $55 for an adult with their own equipment includes lift ticket and all day group lessons. This is a great opportunity to have fun and get a good start on the new season.

    • Participants must provide the club member organizing this event with their ski ability: e.g. normally skis Green Circle, Blue Square, Black Diamond or Never ever skied. This is to be indicated on the ski club participant's summary sheet. This is an early season event and it is possible not all runs will be open, depending on the weather. Refunds will be made in the event that Windham Ski Mountain does NOT open.

    • The focus of this day is an instruction program for adults. All tickets and lessons will receive a NJSC group discount. The classes will start at 9:15AM and have the same instructor all day. Participants must be 16 years or older to join the NJSC group classes. Lessons, tickets and rental equipment for children under 16 are the responsibility of the individual member or parent.

    • Arrangements
      • To register for the program, participants must make payment to their respective ski club. The club organizer must present a club check payable to the New Jersey Ski Council, by November 25, 2007.
      • Personal checks will NOT be accepted.

    • Participants are to meet for the event at the NJ Ski Council table located on the Windam Mtn. main level. They are to meet between 8:00 and 8:45, sign in, and receive lift tickets and instructions for the program. Please be on time to class!!! Those participants who are late may not be assigned to a proper class. Class assignments begin at 9:15 AM at the assembly area on the hill. Ski Skills Tune Up Day is limited to the first 150 people.

*Note: We assume that people renting equipment have little or no previous ski experience and are given a lower mountain lift ticket.
