NJSC Racing Programs

The NJ Ski Council offers several different racing programs which
are open to members of all clubs

Racing programs for 2007 - 2008:

PSIA races
-
The Professional Ski Instructors (PSIA)
organization has opened their race
camps to non-member skiers. There are 12 events, from a 4-day race week at
Hunter to 2-day weekends. They are excellent programs, professionally coached with
emphasis on personal skiing skills as well as gates. Everyone greatly improves skiing
ability and the gate training will enhance both your skiing and carving skills. Camp dates
and PSIA applications are available through the member clubs.

NJSC Consolation Race
-
Date - January 17, 2008 (tentative) at Hidden Valley, New Jersey.
-
Open to all, but only those racers who have not finished in the top ten
men and top five women in the State Race in the last three years and top
three men and women in the WNRL in the last three years are eligible for
awards.

Race starts at 7:30 p.m. Team size per club is unlimited. Results for
race based on best two women and best three men times. Racer must complete
both runs to qualify.

Awards given out at end-of-year race party in April.

NJSC State Race
-
Date - February 2, 2008 at Pico, Vermont.

This is a team race that consists of a one run slalom and one run giant
slalom. Team consists of five women and six men. Clubs may enter more than
one team. Results based on best three women and best four men time in each
run. Racer may not finish first run or disqualify and still count for second
run for team score.

All racers get a commemorative T-shirt.

Party after race at Pico to announce results.

Awards and other prizes given out at end-of-year race party in April. All prizes given away lottery style. Winning men's, women's, and combined team get to keep perpetual trophy for year.

President's Race
-
The annual Stanley Sharaga Memorial President's Race is held each year. The race honors the memory of a Stanley Sharaga, a past President of the NJ Ski Council.

Date - March 22, 2008 at Hunter Mountain, New York.

Team size per club is unlimited. This will be a two-run dual Nastar race. Results ranked based on racer's best handicap. Men and women divided into three equal classes with first person in each class getting 25 points on down. Team score based on best three women point scores and best four men point scores. Therefore, racers in second and third classes can contribute equally to team score as can best racers.

Racers receive commemorative racing photograph and Nastar medal if they qualify. Party after race at Hunter Mountain. Awards given out for team and first, second, and third men and women in each class. All prizes given away lottery style.

NJSC Wednesday Night Race League
-
The league consists of six nights of racing contested at Mountain Creek,
New Jersey.

Races start at 7:30 p.m. Team size per club is unlimited. Results for each
night based on best two women and best three men times. Racer must complete both
runs to qualify.

Final standings for year based on best five out of six team scores. Final
individual scores based on best three races.

Most recent race results

The New Jersey Ski Council (NJSC) sponsored three individual races and
a separate race league consisting of six separate races this past year. To

This year it is hoped to have prizes awarded lottery style to all participants as we did last year.
The program is open to any individual who is a member in good standing of a club in the NJSC.
All categories of racers (beginner to expert) are welcome to come out and improve your skiing ability
and have fun at the same time.
