The Amateur Ski Instructors Association, more commonly known as ASIA, has three main objectives:
To train and certify candidates who are interested in teaching alpine,
snowboard, and cross country skiing at the amateur level through ski clubs,
schools, colleges, youth groups, and other organizations.
To encourage and facilitate the upgrading of skiing and riding skills of
all skiers through positive programs designed to contribute to and enhance the
safety and enjoyment of skiing.
ASIA seeks to provide a continuing education program for certified amateur
ski and snowboard instructors (CASI's) at a reasonable cost and modest yearly
dues, as well as providing a first step toward certification for those who wish
to become paid professional instructors.
ASIA was originally an organization that ran entry-level ski instructor
events and certification clinics. Over the years they have expanded and now
have the following programs:
Intermediate skiing improvement
Advanced Skiing improvement
Mogul Introduction
Mogul Improvement
Level I & II Certification
Methodology
Snowboard Certification
The programs are one of the best buys in skiing today, offering a variety
of 2-day clinics with top PSIA professional instructors for less than the cost of a
2-hour private lesson.
The New Jersey Ski Council will pay half of the Pre-course and Exam fees after
the candidate passes the exam.

*Note: We assume that people renting equipment have little or no previous ski
experience and are given a lower mountain lift ticket. This means that the
skier/snowboarder can only use the lower mountain lifts. If the instructor
determines the class should use an upper level lift for part of the lesson,
then the student in the class will be allowed to stay with the class and use
that lift.
